- General Discussionnative fruits R to L, top to bottom: passion fruit, persimmon, black raspberry, pawpaw, wild plum Edible native plants are the best way to feed your community from the tiniest ant living right outside to the family across the street struggling to pay for groceries. As we find ourselves in the late stages of capitalism, it has become revolutionary to feed struggling people around us. It is extreme and radical to advocate for the survival of defenseless beings. There is pressure on those blessed with homes to conform to a lifeless culture of invasive European turf lawns that is rooted in human/animal slavery, colonization/indigenous genocide. We are being told it’s normal that the final old growth forests of this continent are still being clearcut and replaced with monocultures. How am I supposed to accept that Ohio is auctioning off its state parks to fracking as we’re having fracking earthquakes? We have the technology to feed ourselves, have free energy and reverse the demise of all life on this planet. The ruling class won’t go down without a fight. They are well organized and militant. We have to take care of each other. This planet is increasingly warming and the extreme weather continues to outdo itself. We are gonna need each other. Systems of aid are being gutted and dismantled for privatization driven by profit. We must organize and build community for insulation from the deterioration of our country and catastrophe that comes with our changing climate. We gotta be asking questions like: how can we sustainably feed people around us? We need to be talking to our neighbors and connecting with people from across the country to help each other solve these issues. Native plants and native plant agriculture will play a big role in the future and if you grow them, you know why. There’s no need for water, fertilizer, or pest control. The vitamins, minerals, nutrients and flavor in native plants is abundant. We can thank indigenous people for setting us up for this moment and thinking 7 generations ahead. I’d like for this forum/site to be a place for information and resource sharing, community building. Not just discussion about plants, but discourse regarding the current fate of this planet and what it means for all beings living on this thing. If you have any ideas about what people can do to build, grow, strengthen, feed community please share in the comments and invite others to discuss so that we can work towards building a better world. This year I’ll be propagating thru seeds, dividing roots and taking cuttings of edible native plants to share with any neighbors around me. Also, I plan on getting more food from my plants to neighbors and having more conversations with people around me and native plant people/activists from around the country online. Thanks for reading! Don’t forget to post your thoughts and ideas in the comments ❤️
